Led by Coroner Naida Rutherford, our Coroner Cadet Program is a 2 week hands-on experience. Students in 9th - 12th grade get to bring shows like Crime Scene Investigators to life.
Our student-led "Body Farm" is used to teach principles in determining the cause and manner of death, legislation related to death investigation, decomposition of the human body and time of death determination.
Over the past two years, we have had a diverse group of talented students complete program. Through a combination of hands-on training, real world case simulations, and mentorship by seasoned professionals the students were equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to excel in various roles within forensic science.
Led by Coroner Naida Rutherford, our Coroner Cadet Program is a 2-week hands-on experience and the first of its kind in the state. Students between 9th-12th grade can truly bring shows like CSI—crime scene investigations to life! Students learn mathematics, physical science, and biology principles as they relate to death investigation in an age-appropriate manner.

The Coroner Cadet Program was life-changing for me. I never imagined I’d get hands-on experience with forensic science in high school! It opened my eyes to a career path I’m now passionate about.
